Tips on eating healthy when travelling

A little planning and strategy can help you to continue with your diet in order to maintain your balance and reduce stress. Through my experience and knowledge, I have figured out what needs to be done before leaving, for a simple, easy and healthy trip.

Your food diet plan will depend on the nature of the destination you are travelling to. Before you leave, research thoroughly about the destination and what kind of food options are available over there. Then come to the decision and categorize your food choices under a Big Yes and No.

Pack a healthy snack bag to avoid unwanted calories while on a journey. Carry more and more healthy snacks options like nuts, roasted makhanas, chanas, murmura,  oatmeal cookies, seeds and protein bars for healthy munching.

To make your trip healthier and easier, Here are some tips to help you eat healthfully while you’re travelling:

1. Healthy eating starts where you stop

If you find a restaurant in your way be smart what you order. Scan your menu first and then decide what to order. Rather than going for something cheesy and greasy go for clean with low calories & high protein meal options like chicken salad, grilled chicken, fish, sandwiches loaded with vegetables, scrambled eggs, omelet etc.

2. More n More Sleep

 We all know travelling is amazing, but it can be stressful at the same time, that’s why to avoid unwanted munching or eating try to sleep more n more while you are on the go. Give rest to your body.

3. Keep yourself hydrated

Carry a water bottle with you at all the times as our body needs water for its proper functioning. Drinking plenty of water will flush all the harmful toxins from your body, keep your skin fresh, and help you to eat less. Even drinking 2 glasses of water before a meal helps you to maintain the diet and weight.

4. Eat frequently, and in smaller amounts

Do not save up calories for one big meal. Break them into smaller amount which leads to a faster metabolism, weight management, & helps to sustain energy throughout the day. Smaller meals send signals to the brain & let it know that the food supply is plentiful and won’t send your body into the calorie-collecting starvation mode. You can also have South Indian dishes like Idli Sambhar, Dosa, vada as a healthy meal option, if available around you. This way you can have control over your balanced diet while on the go.

5. Cook when you can

The best way to eat healthy while travelling is to cook for yourself. If you are staying in an apartment or cottage then look out for a local market buy fresh vegetables and ingredients make your own healthy meal.

6. Eat plenty of protein

Eating the right amount of protein with all essential amino acid your body needs can help you to maintain your weight and energy level in your body and keeps you lean and strong. While trekking, hiking, travelling stoke your body with high-quality lean protein.

7. Limit liquid calories

When you are on a vacation try to avoid artificial sweeteners drinks, as they are the house of calories and are the major contributor to vacation weight gain. keep those drinks away from you and go for more water, green tea, and natural juices.

8. Boost up with fiber

Go for the more fiber-rich meal as it is an indigestible component of foods that slow down the digestion process and helps you to keep full for more longer time. Fiber-rich food options are brown rice, quinoa, lentils, chickpeas, whole grain bread, and breakfast cereals.

Bottom Line “It’s all about Balance”

Vacations are all about having fun and chill with your buddies. Don’t feel bad or guilty if you indulge one night in the restaurant try to compensate those calories with the next one. After all, in the end, it’s you and your body that matters.

By keeping these tips in mind, you will help yourself satisfied both physically and mentally as you enjoy your vacations.
